Keep Your Screen Active When You Need It
Ever been in the middle of an important presentation only for the screen saver to kick in? Or had a long download interrupted because the display locked? Stop Screen Saver is a lightweight, hassle-free utility that prevents your screen saver from starting whenever you need uninterrupted screen activity.
Windows does not always make it easy to disable the screen saver, especially on work or restricted systems where settings are locked down by IT policies. Stop Screen Saver runs quietly in the system tray and blocks the screen saver from activating -- no system changes or admin privileges required.
Who Is This For?
- Presenters and speakers -- Keep your screen active during presentations, demos, and meetings without interruption.
- IT technicians and remote workers -- Prevent screen lock during remote desktop sessions, file transfers, and system monitoring.
- Video editors and gamers -- Keep the screen on while rendering video or during long gaming sessions.
- Restricted users -- Bypass enforced screen savers on corporate or shared machines without needing admin access.
Key Features
Prevents Screen Saver Activation
Sends a configurable keypress to Windows at regular intervals, preventing the screen saver from ever starting.
One-Click System Tray Control
Enable or disable screen saver prevention with a single click or double-click directly from the system tray icon.
No Admin Privileges Needed
Works on restricted systems where screen saver settings are locked down by group policies.
Customizable Keypress Options
Choose from multiple keypress types including CTRL, ALT, and others to avoid conflicts with your applications.
Timer Mode
Set a timeout period so the screen saver prevention automatically stops after a specified duration.
Fully Portable -- Zero Installation
No Installation Required Runs directly from an .exe file. No setup wizard, no "Next, Next, Finish."
Runs From USB Copy to a flash drive and use on any PC. IT techs carry these on a keychain for on-site support.
Leaves No Trace No files left behind after use. Delete the folder and it is gone completely.
No Registry Changes Does not modify the Windows registry, system settings, or install drivers.
Self-Contained Everything the program needs lives in its own folder. No scattered DLLs or AppData clutter.
No Admin Rights Needed Runs under standard user accounts. No UAC prompts, no IT ticket required.
Lightweight Tiny footprint, typically under 1 MB. No frameworks, runtimes, or bloated dependencies.
Instant Startup Launches in under a second. No splash screens, no loading bars, no waiting.
How It Works
- Launch Stop Screen Saver -- It appears as an icon in your Windows system tray (next to the clock).
- Enable protection -- Right-click the tray icon to disable or enable the screen saver. The icon changes to show the current state.
- Customize if needed -- Open Options to choose which keypress is sent and how often it fires. Use CTRL or ALT to avoid interference with programs like PowerPoint.
- Set and forget -- Optionally enable "Disable on Startup" so Stop Screen Saver automatically blocks the screen saver every time it launches.
Tips and Troubleshooting
If Stop Screen Saver does not appear to be working, try changing the keypress type in the Options dialog. The CTRL and ALT options were added specifically to resolve issues with applications like PowerPoint that make sounds when certain keys are pressed. You can also try our Mouse Move utility as an alternative approach that continuously moves the mouse cursor at a set interval.
