My antivirus flagged RJL System Cleaner. Is it a virus?

No. RJL System Cleaner is not malicious software. Antivirus false positives are a known issue with system cleaning utilities because they perform actions (file deletion, registry access, process enumeration) that can resemble malicious behavior to heuristic-based antivirus engines.

If your antivirus flags RJL System Cleaner:

  1. Check that you downloaded the file from the official source: RJL System Cleaner
  2. Verify the SHA256 hash matches the one on the download page
  3. Check the digital signature (right-click .exe > Properties > Digital Signatures > "RJL Software")
  4. Add an exception in your antivirus for RJLSystemCleaner.exe

You can also upload the file to VirusTotal.com, which scans it with 70+ antivirus engines. Legitimate system utilities commonly show 1-3 detections out of 70+ engines -- this indicates a false positive, not a real threat.
